This is a program that I did with Intersections for RTE Lyric FM at Ennismore Retreat Centre, in Cork. Click on the link above below the video. Throughout our time at Ennismore we did, a ‘tryptic’ of sorts; historical dramas for radio, which began with Friars Walk, Christmas Postcards and Jerusalem Passion. Jerusalem Passion would go on to win a New York Radio Festival Award. We had such a creative time there with each radio adventure. The Dominican Brothers gave us a free hand and a safe harbour to come and create in their beautiful retreat centre. Now the place has been sold to the highest bidder, 24 acres of an old estate, with a coach house and lodge.
The community do not want to leave but such is commerce and the obedience within the order. That is 70 years of investment and involvement. I was often involved in their school retreats, guiding workshops on resilience, mindfulness, empathy, meditation, creativity and play. I loved those dates with the kids, all school kids from different backgrounds. Such a shame that the city council couldn’t step in and save it. We’ll miss it more when it is gone. I’ll miss them and their genorosity. Those brothers were an an ally to the arts on many occasions. . Catch the program all this week on Niall Carroll’s Classical Daytime RTE Lyric FM at 12 pm, 5 episodes in total. Enjoy
